Norine M. Flynn-Spero age 81, beloved wife of the late Ignatius “Nick” Spero. Daughter of the late Josephine, nee Wagner and Michael Flynn. Dear sister of Patricia (the late Robert) Philbin, Margaret (James) Gaietto, Kathleen (Kevin) Gibbons, and the late P.F.C. Michael Flynn. Fond aunt of 13 nieces and nephews and great-aunt of 27 nieces and nephews. Loving Godmother of Janet Sebastian, John Neblo, Robert Philbin III and Kathryn Cremins. A cherished friend to many.
Norine dedicated her life to serving others – not only her family and friends, but those in need. She began her career at St. Vincent de Paul caring for infants and new mothers, and then continued working with older children at the Illinois Children Home and Aid Society. Norine earned her Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Illinois, then worked at Christ Hospital and the Salvation Army, specializing in alcoholism counseling. A lifelong learner, Norine’s work inspired her to return to school at age 50 to become a nurse. After earning her nursing degree, she worked at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park as a surgical nurse. Norine used her experience and knowledge to help as many people as she could. This caring quality endeared her to others, and she was appreciated by many.
To her family, she is remembered for her love of the creative – whether it was in the kitchen or the sewing room. The mementos are special, but the memories of creating things together will be cherished the most. We all loved Norine and will miss her very much.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation and Salvation Army are appreciated. Funeral Saturday, 8:45am from Beverly Ridge Funeral Home, 10415 S. Kedzie to St. Christina Church, Mass at 9:30 a.m. Internment Private. Visitation Friday 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. 773-779-4411.
