Quinten D. Salnave Obituary
Quinten Donald Salnave died much the same way we presume he was born; stubborn and in August. At a spritely 87 years old, he was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Belle Pomeroy Knipper Salnave; his brother, Richard Salnave; his brother, Bruce Salnave; and his sister, Beatrice Palmer. He left behind his four nephews, two nieces, 11 great nieces and nephews, and 15 great great nieces and nephews.
Quin grew up with his siblings in the 30s and 40s in Chicago, Illinois, often living without modern amenities.
After years of hardships, he joined the military for a couple years and traveled Europe.
Returning home, he lived with his brother, Richard, and worked until retirement at The Rueter Worth Dairy.
Quin was an avid reader and shocked everyone with his vast collection of cozy mysteries with cats. It didn't mesh with the one-legged, Coors drinking, tool hoarding, travel-loving old man we all knew.
In one particular travel, he took his nephews to the caverns of Sonora where he told them about bat guano being used for gun powder back in the day. His travels were always done in brand new vehicles. He started with a Crown Victoria that he would replace yearly or every other year. Eventually, he moved on to a minivan. It always impressed the kids when he'd show up to the Palmer holidays in a brand new car bought out-right.
Quin's many nieces and nephews will remember him for his constant "Yup. Mmhmm" after every sentence, the sound of his cane creaking while walking across the carpet, and his ability to never be able to hear even though he had hearing aids. As it turned out, his hearing aids never actually worked because he was too stubborn to call the doctor to get them adjusted.
For 20 years, Quin lived alone in Mauston, Wisconsin as a hermit. As he got older, his trips were more infrequent until he wasn't able to travel anymore. He chose a life of solitude until he absolutely couldn't do it. He attempted to stay independent until the very end.
Thankfully, he did spend time with family before he passed. Please do not be sad for Quin. He lived a long, full life doing what he enjoyed. He will be buried at Evergreen cemetery on Monday September 9th 2024. May he rest in peace.
