James S. Merlo. Beloved husband of Judy, nee King for 61 wonderful years. Dearest son of the late Lena Merlo. Dear father of James Jr. (Debbie) and Rocco (Denise). Loving grandfather of James III, Rachael, Maxwell and Jack. Dear brother of the late Rosemary (the late Michael, ret’d CPD) Bradaric and Paul (the late Cathryn “Pat”). Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Born and raised in the Italian Community of Chinatown. Jim was a graduate of Santa Maria Incoronata (St. Therese). Jim was awarded a football scholarship to St. Rita High School and played in the city wide all-star game at Soldier Field and was awarded the Athletic Award from the St. Rita Alumni Association. Jim had close lifelong relationships with classmates and neighborhood friends like the Barons Club. Jim was a civil engineer and professional engineer for 38 years during which he was involved in many projects such as Deep Tunnel Project, Street Paving Project, traffic design for the new Comiskey Park and many more as a member of the Board for Local Improvements with the City of Chicago.
