Norma Jean Nelson (nee Caplinger), 87, of North Aurora, IL passed away Thursday, October 17, 2019 at home.
She was born in Moberly, MO on April 29, 1932 to the late Frederick and Anna Atterbury Caplinger. Norma grew up on the south side of Chicago and she graduated from Hirsch High School in 1951.
Norma married Russell Edward Nelson in 1972 and raised two sons, Edward and Frederick, in Riverdale, IL. Prior to having her children, she worked in the personnel department at the Illinois Central Railroad. After her children had grown, she worked at Lee Enterprises. Norma was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was very creative and spent much of her free time sewing, quilting, cooking, solving puzzles, and painting ceramics. She was a beloved aunt and great aunt to many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Russell Nelson, and her brothers, Kenneth and Harold Caplinger.
Norma is survived by her sons, Edward Nelson and his wife, Rebecca of North Aurora, IL; Frederick Nelson and his wife Regina of Ankara, Turkey; and her grandchildren, Lydia, Vivien, and Louis.
She cherished her pet dogs, Benji, Lady, and Stella. Stella, her companion, will truly miss her.
Resting at Beverly Ridge Funeral Home; 10415 S Kedzie Ave Thursday 9:00 a.m. until time of services 11:00 a.m. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery. 773-779-4411.
